Medicare Enrollment Periods

There are different enrollment periods when a Medicare beneficiary may sign up for Medicare, join or change a Medicare plan.

The specifics about each enrollment period that involve Medicare Parts A and B (Original Medicare), Part  C (Medicare Advantage), Part D (Prescription Drug Plan) and Supplement (Medigap are explained in detail.

Initial Enrollment Period (IEP)

IEP is the 7 month period for a newly Medicare-eligible person (age 65).

Special Enrollment Period (SEP)

SEP allows an already enrolled beneficiary to change a Medicare Advantage Plan or a Part D plan.

General Enrollment Period (GEP)

The GEP runs from January 1st – March 31st every year. 

MA Open Enrollment Period (OEP)

The MA OEP runs from January 1st – March 31st every year.

Annual Enrollment Period (AEP)

AEP runs from October 15th – December 7th every year.
